Women are dramatically underrepresented in state government. Out of 174 Senators and Representatives, only 29 (14 Black,15 White) are women.
Sixty-four percent of Mississippi families that live in poverty are headed by single mothers. Their median income is below the federal poverty level.
Women in Mississippi earn less than men at every educational level and in almost every industry. Twenty-six percent of Black women who have Bachelor Degrees do not earn enough to make ends meet.
